On 20, January 2024, the Leo Club and the Interact Club of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) collaborated to organize a cross-country charity run. The event aimed to support those in need, with all proceeds donated to Methodist Crisis Relief and Development (MCRD), and the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA). 

MCRD received approximately RM52,000 from these donations. Mr. Jacob Lee, the Chairman of MCRD, disclosed that the funds would support the organization’s upcoming refugee education program, promising to aid more refugees than before. 

The ceremonial cheque was presented to Mr. Jacob Lee by Mr. Wong Chee Kheon, the principal of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International), during a ceremony on Monday, 1st April, at the school’s weekly assembly hall. 

Mr. Lee, in his address, highlighted the challenging circumstances refugees face in Malaysia, primarily due to identity issues. He commended the generous contributions from the school community, which will enable these refugees to have more access to education. 

He further announced a partnership with the Kachin Refugee Learning Center to launch a sports education program for refugees, starting April 2024. This program includes three months of weekly football training sessions, aimed at enhancing the refugees’ soft skills and character development. 

This year marks the third instance of MCRD collaborating with Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) for fundraising efforts. Previous donations have significantly improved the learning conditions and educational resources at the Refugee Learning Center. Mr. Lee expressed his hope for continued collaboration to increase awareness and support for refugee issues among the school’s teachers and students. 

The event also saw participation from Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA) representatives and members of the Ampang Lions Club.
